More Earth Pigments.......

For the second chapter of our pigment adventure, we have stuck to using natural earth pigments and to a variation on the three main primary colours: red, yellow and blue.  We both love the soft, warm colours and the versatility of these pigments.  So, this time, we're using the following:

  • Ochre Rouge
  • Rouge Venetian
  • Oxide Jaune 63
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Prussian Blue
  • Bleu Turquoise

Acrylic Paints and Polymer Clay

Amanda has created acrylic paints using our chosen pigments and I have mixed the pigments into two different types of polymer clay.

My main clay for this project was Fimo Professional Porcelain which is a semi opaque white clay and I've also tried out Sculpey Premo Translucent clay which is a slightly beige coloured clay.  Both clays have given very different results.

I've got used to the colours changing sometimes dramatically when using natural pigments but this time, the colours didn't change quite so much after firing.  The translucent clay was really interesting as it gave me a truer version of the colours and far more intense colours.  The porcelain white clay softens the colours but gave me some really gorgeous shades.

Amanda's Paintings

Here is a little selection of the paintings that Amanda has created using our shared pigments for the exhibition.  Amanda has made a series of small original works on A5 and A6 handmade Khadi paper as well as some larger works on canvas and cradled board.  Inspired by the rugged Cornish coastline and the local landscapes of Somerset and Wiltshire.

One of a Kind Jewellery Designs

I have been working on lots of new ideas and designs for this collaboration.  Expect one of a kind statement necklaces featuring multi strands of hand made beads strung onto hand forged chain made from recycled sterling silver.  There will also be some very special statement rings - each one unique alongside some new statement earrings designs.  There will also be some of my favourite classic designs made with these lovely earthy colours.  More info to come as the designs come to life!

This year is a rather special Frome Festival with a theme of Charlie and the Choclate Factory, there are five golden tickets to be found!
